Introduction to Candid Conversations and the Student Partner Program

Greetings!

Thank you for engaging with our Candid Conversations. This section of our website will be used to highlight articles and videos by WH DPG Student Partners. Our Student Partners are dynamic individuals that have elected to lead the charge of increasing diversity and inclusion within the practice of nutrition and dietetics.

True to the mission of “diversity and inclusion,” the Student Partners’ work will take on many forms – articles, interviews, social media content and even leadership. Ultimately, each form will stand to recognize, respect, and include differences that represent a spectrum of lived experiences. Each form will challenge us to act, change or resist, so that we may improve our lived experiences.

The Student Partner collaboration with the Women’s Health Dietetics Practice Group (WH DPG) was made possible through a $1,000 Diversity Mini-Grant gifted by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Much of the $1,000 grant went towards paying for the Student Partners’ Academy and WH DPG membership dues. Because like Malala Yousafzai, we understand that access to knowledge is key. We understand that “One child, one teacher, one pen can change the world.”

Maybe the tags in our articles brought you here. Or maybe, you learned about this content through a friend or colleague. No matter what brought you here, at the core, you embody the spirit of an advocate that seeks knowledge – whether that knowledge will benefit yourself or others.

We have one ask: that members join the conversations presented in our articles by candidly commenting and sharing your own lived experiences. We value your voice!

Again, we extend a sincere “Thank You!” to you for engaging in our content. It is our sincerest hope that you will use this as inspiration to have candid conversations in all the spaces that you occupy.

In Power,

Kanisha Neal, RD, CLEC
